Former Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Simataa Akapelwa has called on Zambian diplomats serving in missions abroad to enhance Zambia’s economic diplomacy.
Ambassador Akapelwa says economic diplomacy requires those serving in missions to champion trade relations with other countries.
He says Zambia produces a lot of things which the country’s’ missions abroad can find market for them to be sold as well as attract investment into Zambia .
He says while there can be ready market for locally produced goods, finding market for them may not be enough adding that Zambian diplomats should persuade investors to set up industries in Zambia.
Mr. Akapelwa says establishment of industries will help in adding value to locally produced goods as well as create employment for the local people.
Ambassador Akapelwa who spoke with ZNBC News in Lusaka, has since praised President Edgar Lungu for promoting economic diplomacy as part of Zambia’s foreign policy.
