The Economic Association of Zambia -EAZ has advised government to avoid a further postponement of the introduction of the goods and services tax GST. Speaking in an interview with Money FM news EAZ President Lubinda Haabazoka says further postponement of the introduction of GST will be an indication that government is not ready to implement GST. Dr Haabazoka says continuous deferment of the tax may bring uncertainty amongst business in the country, which may result in them holding on to their investments. And Dr Haabazoka has expressed happiness with the country’s economic performance in the first quarter of 2019. He says the Zambia’s economy has performed very well in the first quarter of 2019 compared to its peers in Southern Africa. He has cited South Africa as one of the countries in Southern region whose economy has only grown by 1 percent. Mr Habazoka however says there is need for a lot of liquidity in the economy for it to perform even better. The EAZ President has further advised Zambia Electricity Supply Cooperation ZESCO to analyze the proposed 47 ngwee per kilowatt hour tariff increment.
